A dramatic accomplishment hundreds years after in 2012 London Olympic Games was the first time that all the participating nations contain female athletes. Under the pressure of the International Olympic Committee, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Brunei said that they would send female athletes to the game which they have never did it before. Until the 1984 Los Angeles Games, women were not allowed to run a marathon. Less than 20 years ago, at the 1996 Atlanta Games, 26 countries contained no women. 

 

“With the hope of gender equality, The I.O.C. has been striving to ensure a greater gender balance from 1864, this news can be seen as an encouraging evolution,” said Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee. 

London Olympic Comprised more than 40% of female competitors in about 10 thousand participants. As a result of title 9 which eliminates discrimination on the basis of gender, United Stated delegation field more woman athletes than man in 2012.

Women athletes in arabian countries still feel hard joining the games. “This is a breakthrough for the two women who will compete under the Saudi flag, but it raises the irony that millions of women and girls in Saudi Arabia are still denied an opportunity to participate as a matter of government policy,” said Minky Worden, the director of global initiatives for Human Rights Watch

 

 

2012 LONDON OLYMPICS becomes a milestone for having both male and female athletes from all the participating countries. You may not see the significance of this achievement, as a matter of fact, The Greek competition was a religion ceremony, so female were not allowed to participate nor watch the game at that time. In 396，a women almost lost her life dressing up like a man into the arena to see his son in the boxing.  There was no record of female playing in the ancient Olympic Games. However, women were still not able to compete since the modern Olympic Games started in 1896 until 1908 London Olmpics. 36 female athletes participated in different kinds of competitions with the approval of the I.O.C. From then on, olympics became equal.  There will be new games for female almost every olympic year. Although women are still having difficulties participating in sports, people from all over the world will continue to strive for equality.
