"In a week when women voters were game changers in a presidential election where some women’s rights -- such as equal pay -- were at stake, it was neat to see a spunky 9-year-old girl get recognition on a very different playing field." Today.com
Sam Gordon is the perfect example of a girl doing what she loves to do, and not being restricted by her sex. Sam’s incredible skills on the football field don’t just make her an excellent female athlete, but an excellent athlete in general. Sam’s performance on the field pertains to something we have been talking about all year, gender equality. It seems that our generation is not concerned with the sex, but the overall talent and qualifications of players, workers, etc.
ReplyDeleteOf course, there are critics who question whether or not football is too rough of a sport for Sam. By watching her speed down the field, dodging everyone in her path, the question should be: is she too good for her age group? I like it is stated that “Football can be dangerous for all kids, regardless of gender.” This quote pertains to all facets of life. The moral of the Sam’s story and the discussions around it boil down to the “You can play” movement. One’s sex, age, or sexual orientation should carry no weight in their ability to play and succeed in their sport.
