SAT's Gender Gap Widening?
For Tuesday night's homework, you all read "The Gender Similarities Hypothesis." The article was an extensive meta-analysis assessing not only psychological differences between men and women, but the physical differences as well. The study was conducted with the purpose of testing the hypothesis that women and men are not actually as different, rather they are quite similar on most levels, as our pop culture emphasizes.
After taking a close look at the data provided (be sure to pay close attention to the different categories), read the article I linked above. The article is from the LATimes and was written in 2001 suggesting that a gender bias exists in the SAT.
Considering the information provided in the study as well as the newspaper article, what do you think of this accusation of an unfair gender gap in one of the most important tests you will all take?
