You can Play

So Miami University just came out with a You Can Play video and its wicked good. Brendan Burke was the student manager of the Red Hawks men's hockey team while he was a student at Miami University. He came out during his sophomore year at Miami.

  1. I'm in love with this video. Not only is it EXTREMELY well done, it also follows the incredible message of the you can play campaign. I really hope we end up doing one of these videos with the class or hockey team or something. It's so empowering and so inspiring.

  2. I think it would be really cool to make a video like this as a class project. The whole concept behind the “You Can Play” campaign makes huge strides for gender equality in sports. Athletes are a large part of popular culture, and are who younger generations look up to as role models. By athletes promoting the idea that can play no matter what gender role you assume, younger generations will absorb the idea and continue promoting equality. We discussed early in the year how, once our generation gets older, we can make great change in how “minorities” like gays are perceived. Being on the cusp of change is an exciting thing, and the players of Miami University are exactly who we need to push change.
